Nestling. Mild steel, hand-dyed cotton and wool yarn, hand-dyed silk, chicken wire, PVA glue. 1240 x 1240 x 2000 mm. 2025. <Nestling is intended as a monument of grief, celebrating Zoey's grandmother, who dedicated her life to the upholding of her matriarchal household. The processing of grief is reflected in the decision to take a familiar object—in this case, a nesting doll—and turn it into something odd by blowing up its size, removing its safe and comforting characteristics, just as one can be overwhelmed and haunted by the cycles of grief. The work carves out the space of a permeable shelter, an establishment of belonging rather than one rooted in protective measures. Yet the duality exists after one enters the body: as one seeks solace in such a space, one is at the same time caged up and consequently loses agency.>

Fledging. Durational performance documented as part of 'Dwelling In Transit.' July 24th, 2025. Maverick Projects, London. <Fledging activates the second stage of Nestling. Imagining herself as a human bobbin, Zoey passes her body in and out of the sculpture, unwinding and eventually freeing herself from the materialised grief.>
